How the "gladiators online" count works
Bronze & Glory shows how many people are playing right now. This page explains what that count uses.
What the game sends
- While the game tab is open and you have clicked, tapped or pressed a key in the last 2 minutes, the game sends a small "still playing" message about every 25 seconds.
- The message holds a random ID made on your device (stored in your browser's local storage), and the name of the link that brought you here, if there was one (for example
?ref=…). Nothing else from your device.
- If you are signed in, the server counts you once per account, so two devices count as one player.
What is kept
- The count of players active in the last 60 seconds, saved once a minute, and the highest count so far.
- How many of those came from each link source.
- IDs and network addresses are only used in scrambled (hashed) form, in memory, for a few minutes, to stop double counting. They are not saved to disk. No emails, names or advertising IDs are collected, and nothing is shared or sold.
What is not counted
Search engine crawlers and other bots, automated or headless browsers, the developer's own test visits, and more than 5 players from one network address in the same minute.
Opting out
Clearing this site's data in your browser removes the random ID. Anyone can see the public totals at api/players/stats.
